Why are the Republicans in the U.S. to ban online poker in 2006?

I do not get it. Republicans claim to be the party of "liberty and ", but then they decided that the Americans were too irresponsible to play online poker. They used a big government nanny state tactics to ban it. Why do the Republicans do this? What happened to the basic principles of freedom and government non-interference? Why are they still not applied for repeal the ban on poker? Furthermore, why should the Republicans to sneak a ban on enhancing port security bill? This is pretty much the only reason I can never vote for GOP again.
